On July 31st RIR's Nicola Torriero had the pleasure of playing an amazing set at one of Montreal's small and cool, underground, electronic music nights BREAKING BELLS every Sunday at Blue Dog Motel 3958 Boul St-Laurent, Montréal, QC H2W 1Y3.
Here are a few more details we discovered about the evening hosted by Anthony Teetz Pecoraro and Montreal Techno Duo D&D.
When did breaking bells start?
Breaking Bells first started on May 22nd this year.
RIR: What made you decide to do a Sunday evening event?
Anthony had the opportunity to throw his own nights on Sundays at,The Blue Dog Motel so he approached us and asked to partner up with him to make it happen. We had never thrown our own parties in the past and we knew Sunday’s was going to be tough but we stood up for the challenge. We also felt like the scene in Montrealwas missing a night dedicated strictly to Techno and this would help build the scene as well. Teetz had thrown a few parties in the past over there and they all were all very successful. On top of that, Piknic is held every Sunday so why not throw an afterparty with locals and music you support?
RIR: What are the challenges about hosting a Sunday event and why did you decide to have
it at Blue Dog?
The challenges are various. Most of us work Monday, less people go out, let alone stay late partying on a Sunday night. There’s also a few other clubs throwing events on Sunday’s as well like Stereo Bar, Salon Daome, UpClub. The scene in Montreal, is not big enough to support many different events in one night. We chose Bluedog because of the way it looks, the red lights create a unique vibe and even the size of the room. It is not made for a big crowd but that room filled with 100 people dancing their life away, is what we call a party.
Who have you got coming up at Breaking Bells?
We have a few big nights ahead. This Sunday we’re playing with an up and coming artist from Montreal, FabioTek. This guy’s been working really hard in the studio and musically, has been impressing us all for quite some time now. We also have Maselli from Ground Factory Records, Ledisko, label manager for Montreal’s own Tiga’s label Turbo Recordsings, and Shades of Blk returning to play again this summer after having a fantastic night the first time. Check these boys out and their label Blk Box Recordings.
